Tournament Rules & Details

FORMAT:
One Gross and Two Net Better-Balls of the Team (Shamble)
All players in the group will hit a tee shot on every hole.  The group then selects the best shot of the five and each player will play their own golf ball into the hole from that position. Each team member must use their drive a minimum of 3 times. The lowest gross score will be added with the 2 lowest net scores to get a team total for the hole.  The same ball cannot be used for the gross score and the net score. If one of the competitors fails to complete the play of the hole there is no penalty.

RULES:
U.S.G.A. Rules will govern all play with the exception of the local rules listed on the back of the facility scorecard.
Please remember that the balls that count for the team score must be holed out on each hole to have an official  score.
The fourteen club rule will be in effect.
Ball drop areas are defined by blue tee markers.
Ground Under Repair is marked with white lines.

HANDICAPS:
Will be 90% for men and 95% for women based on U.S.G.A. recommendation.

TEES:
Men Professionals - Green markers
Senior Professionals (50 and over) - Brown markers

*All players have the option to move up or back a set of tees based on where they post the majority of their scores. Players electing to move to a new set of tees will have their handicaps adjusted based on the difference in course rating from the tournament tees.

Jr. & Sr. (70 and over) Amateurs - Gold markers

About Denise Martinez:

The Annual Denise Martinez Memorial Pro-Am Tournament supports the greater Flagstaff community through the Forest Highlands Foundation. The Foundation channels the generosity of the Forest Highlands community to support the Flagstaff non-profit organizations which most efficiently  and effectively provide services to our neighbors in need.   Our funding decisions are the result of detailed investigation and careful deliberation.

Denise Martinez was all about giving back, too.  After an outstanding  Arizona playing career in high school and college, and a fling at the tour, Denise devoted herself to a career as a club professional.  After moving to  Forest Highlands where she started as an assistant in the pro shop, Denise worked her way up to become one of the few female Directors of Golf in the state.

She  was widely,  known  not only as a great player and teacher, but also as a superb mentor of young club professionals.  Her big smile, warm people skills,  consummate professionalism, and love for the game of golf  made her extremely popular with everyone in the golf community. At every opportunity, Denise was a volunteer and great supporter of golf charities, junior golf, and the Special Olympics.

Tragically, Denise died in 2008 in a motor-scooter accident in Truckee, CA, where she had moved to start a new phase of her professional career. Your participation in our Memorial Golf Tournament will help us celebrate the life  of  Denise Martinez, and it will advance the work of the Forest Highlands Foundation.  We offer our gratitude to the Martinez Family for their ongoing support.
